    Construction Management Schools

    Construction management is one of the many occupations in the United States that has excellent employment opportunities. The opportunities will continue to escalate until 2014 because of the numerous employment openings are projected to exceed the number of qualified individuals who want to join the construction management workforce.

    It is expected to continue even with the expansion of the construction management schools and colleges. Individuals hoping to enter the construction management workforce must have a strong background experience in the construction industry. More and more construction management schools and colleges are now offering four year courses in construction management, construction science and construction engineering. The curriculum of these construction management courses aims to develop the individual's skills in the construction management field. These involve the enhancement of one's construction method, costs estimating skills, contract administration and planning.

    There are some construction management schools and colleges offer master's degree courses in construction management. Graduates of master's degree programs tend to have excellent career opportunities and are typically employed in large construction management companies. Individuals who are holders of unrelated degrees in construction management seek better opportunities by taking up programs on construction management schools and universities. While there are some individuals who are construction managers acquire master's degree in business administration or finance to further enhance their careers. There are many construction management schools and universities in the United States that offer two year construction management programs.

    Certification in construction management is not a requirement in order to work on the industry. However, certification in construction management gives the holder a better career opportunity as well as evidence of the individual's capability and experience in the construction management field. The American Institute of Constructors and the Construction Management Association of America have set up voluntary certification programs. The requirements for the said certification are written examinations, verification of education from the construction management schools and universities, and professional construction industry experience.

    The American Institute of Constructors awards the designation of an Associate Constructor and Certified Professional Constructors to the qualified individuals. While the Construction Management Association of America awards the designation of Certified Construction Manager to practitioners that are able to meet their requirements during work performed with a construction management organization and also by passing their technical examination. Applicants for the Certified Construction Manager must also finish a self study program which covers an extensive range of topics related to construction management. It also includes the professional roles of construction managers, legal concerns and allocation of risks involve in the construction industry.

    With the degree and certification from construction management schools, career options for an individual expand.
