    Ask For Written Contracts

    Most contract requirements vary by locality and sate. Even if your own sate does not require any written contract, you should always ask for one fro your won protection should there be any problems in the future. A contract would generally indicate the who, where, when, what and the cost of the project, and should always be clear, complete and concise. Before signing such documents, you need to make sure it contains the following:


    The contractor¡Çs name, contact number, address, and license number. If it is a corporation, it should include the principal and the owners¡Ç name as well.

    Payment schedule for the contractors, the suppliers and subcontractors.

    Estimated start and completion date of the project.

    A detailed account of the contractor¡Çs obligations, including securing all the necessary permits.

    A clear definition should there be any changes in the project and how such changes will be handled at any phase of the contractual work. Some remodeling jobs have written authorization for the contractor to execute any changes or addition to the work, which can naturally affect the cost of the project as well as the schedule of the completion. Make sure you discus this thoroughly with your contractor.

    Detailed bill of the material listings what would include the model, color, size brand name and product that w ill be used.

    Warranties that will cover the product as well as the quality of workmanship. This will include the names and addresses of the parties that will honor the said warranties and the period and limitations of the warranty.

    List of the responsibilities as well as those things that the contractor will dot agree to do, such as hauling and clean up of the jobsite.
